Black, Nude, Gold, Sparkles on the Highway that don't care

evening-dresses

Photos from style.com and google

I'm looking to make my prom dress again, and despite making a cream lace and blue chiffon backless long sleeved maxi last year which originally was going to take me to prom- I decided I wanted something a bit less dreary little prom girl this year. I loved the other one I made two years ago now for my year eleven prom (check it here) but this time I'm older, (legally allowed to consume alcohol people) hopefully wiser and a bit edgier (I hope again). Plus I'm organising the entire event, so I have to have a killer dress right.
They all say that LBD's are classic but boring on Project Runway (why can't designers not use colour? Haha) but at a prom you are literally drowning in a sea of pastels and 'colour of confidence red'. And then this year as we are older, apparently we care less, and most of us wanna go clubbing later so everyone's like 'short dresses y'all'. I wore a short(er) dress last time, I wanna go different!
I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan and have loved her lil girly transformation into as a radio presenter put it 'into a sex kitten' recently. That playsuit at the Brit's and more recently the Naeem Khan dress she wore when performing with Tim Mccgraw at the country music awards. LOVE. I want it! Further black dress research has made me chosen fabric- black chiffon (skirt), black and nude mesh, gold and silver beads and chains, lace strips and black ribbon strips for applique. I hope to make some gorgeous art deco beaded mesh top with a high neckline and mesh back, and then have a full length maxi skirt. I'll let you know how it goes.

Nimrod (adagio)

Goodness, is that the time? Truly has flown.
Seems like I have no time for anything I enjoy nowadays, and unfortunately my blog has received the bad end of the bunch. Sorry and I promise I will properly post soon!!!!
Meanwhile- I am constantly updating my ebay account with cool vintage and quirky high street pieces. Check it? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/thepelicanandme/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25&_trksid=p3686

Biker Biker

Leather biker jackets and designer jackets are pretty much a staple item for any girl to have in their wardrobe! I only have one cheapie from H&M but now because they are becoming so iconic-ally classic, it is time to invest in real leather. What I love most about them is that they make that spring and autumn transition period so much easier as they're light and go with everything. You can layer them with jumpers and shirts in autumn, and then put them over pretty summer dresses in spring. I love all these jackets but my favorite has to be the Micheal Kors jacket (2). As a great american sportswear designer, the biker jacket he has made is cut beautifully.
Grab all of these from our favorite british luxury store- Harrods.

Ebay Treasures

I've just listed loads and loads more stuff on ebay in order for me to go on my mission trip this summer to work with a charity in India. There are loads of great clothes on there and I'd really appreciate it if you could look at them and hopefully bid! (Please)
Thank you!

Does it always feel like nothing has changed at all?

Top-DIY, Jacket- H&M, Leggings- TK Maxx, Bag- Cambridge Satchel, Shoes- Office

ps..get a similar satchel here

I wore this to a Uni open day in London. I'm so obsessed with these office boots- except I wore them to a gig (The Hives) and they were so outrageously trodden on the toes have flattened and a few studs have come off. Silly me!

YAYA Easter! I've been in london for the weekend and glasgow monday and tuesday, plus a full day school on wed with extra art classes and my schools spring concert. I am EXHAUSTED. Everyone in my year is going to Talk (club) tonight but I'm at home drinking tea, blogging and watching TOWIE. The life!

1950s British Fashion #2

Ankle-pants
Ankle Pants are the coolest thing going. Cigarette, tapered, peg leg, they are flattering and sweet and oh so stylish. Definitely going to be getting some of these in white and a plaid print! I loved how they wore them on the season finale of Call the Midwife, you know that fantastic show which I happen to be obsessed with. I have season one on box set and am on the final book. I definitely recommend watching it and reading it- it's such an easy read and historically and scientifically educational! I love to transport myself to that world.
Here are the amazon links!

1950's British Fashion..#1

pictures from the satorialist
If you're readng this and not obsessed with Call the midwife, go re-educate yourself now. Two fantastic bbc series, starring the hilarious Miranda Hart (my favourite comdienne) and three brilliant educational books- I want to transport myself back in time! I as always have a keen eye for the fashion on the show, and I love the below the knee skirts and cropped trousers. I just think short short is so out of fashion now, and this is such a chic'er length.
My next post will be about cropped trousers!

Everytime, I say goodbye, I die a little

IMG_1450 IMG_1454 IMG_1448 IMG_1447

Top- Dorothy Perkins, Necklace- Accessorise, Tights- Next, Shoes- Doc Martin
I may be saying goodbye to these shoes soon. I just don't wear them enough! My mistake of buying them in a dark red, should have bought black. I'm very meticulous when it comes to colour matching haha. So remember to check my ebay, because I'm looking to upload a lot of new things over this half term! I'll post when I've got it all sorted. Overscrutinising myself and realising how much weight I've put on in these photos. Hopefully it's just the unforgiving white tights.
I've had a rough couple of days following a sad break up. Still friends though, which is great, but it's just a tremendous sense of loss though. Comforting myself with my new call the midwife DVD and high fat foods. Which isn't doing anything for my body in photos! Haha.

Wedges

Wedges

I recently bought some black pumps from Miss selfridge sale which have a heel height around 6 inches. They are like heel suicide. I have worn them out, but fell over and had to remove them several times. But they're so pretty and classic so I'm still persevering on :p
But then I was talking to my friend who was talking about her beloved wedges, at least a five inch heel but she says that they're soo comfy that she gets less blisters if she were to wear flats. This intrigued me.
Now I'm obsessed. Particularly with these. I always loved Jane Aldridges Givenchy wedges, and Marni shoes have always been a favourite of mine. These office and topshop alternatives are slightly cheaper, but still £80....anyone wanna buy them for me?
Haha
